Production Schedule and role allocation
We had to think long and hard over who to use for our film. We ended up using Lisa carter aged 18 and Dwayne Harris aged 21. We didn’t want to use anyone too young or too old as we wanted our film to appeal to a wider age range. We wanted our audience to be able to feel a connection with our characters and see bits of themselves in them. We didn’t ask them to wear any particular costumes as we wanted them to feel comfortable. We also wanted them to look natural, looking like any normal teenager/young adult.
We managed to film everything in one day. We chose a bench as we thought it went well with the storyline. After getting all our footage, we also managed to get our voice-overs done. Thankfully it was a nice day outside, this goes well with our film as romantic comedies are usually light and sunny.

3 main ideas
Thriller
My idea for a thriller was based around the idea of temptation. This girl was going to steal her teacher’s laptop. She is going to be real pleased with herself; things didn’t start to go wrong until a week later. At first weird messages kept appearing saying WHY and HELP ME! At first she didn’t think anything of it. However one day she was doing her work when a video suddenly appeared right in front of her. There was a girl crying and screaming for help, she kept saying your next be careful. The girl then throws the laptop across the room; not realising there is a dark figure behind her.Romantic Comedy
My Rom-com idea is based on the idea of looks and how self conscious young adults/teenagers are. The film is based on a boy and a girl who have been talking a while on blackberry messenger. They seem to like each other therefore decide to meet. You would see there journeys to meet each other. However they have both been lying about their looks. The girl would have said she is tall and skinny, were the guy said he is also tall and muscular. They both didn’t feel confident in the way they look. I would also include a voice over of their thoughts on meeting each other.
Horror
My idea for a horror is a woman who has as an obsession with children’s toys. She liked playing with toys when she was younger as she was a bit of a loner. She didn’t have many friends therefore always looked after her toys. As an adult she was very shy and also didn’t have many friends. One day she just snaps and goes on a killing spree of young children and anyone who has ever hurt her. She especially targets the children who don’t look after their toys as she thinks they are selfish and the toys have feelings.

Evaluation
In our media product, we have use light upbeat music, in order to create a mellow and calm scene which you would expect from a romantic comedy. We used our media knowledge to best of our ability by using red writing, for the opening credits, with white outlining. This is because usually the audience will associate red with happiness, and love. Whereas the white outline creates a sense of purity and clarity. Overall this would set a romantic feel to the beginning of our movie, and the audience would already have associated these colours with the type of movie we are doing which is a romantic comedy. We filmed our media product outside as the whether was bright and sunny, automatically; the audience would link this to a Rom-com as they would expect this type of project to be bright and not gloomy or dark. We have challenged conventions of a typical Romantic Comedy by having main and major characters of a different ethnic group. Usually the main and major characters are white, we have used mixed race guy and the girl is originally from South Africa. Usually the main and major characters would be white and a little older. Whereas ours are younger and of a different ethnic group.
Our media product was a romantic comedy, we used young adults as the actors, this in itself would attract young people as they are less likely to watch and relate to it if there are older actors. We made sure the characters were dressed appropriately and looked like young adults that they are. Others with the same dress sense would be able to relate to them and think 'I have that top at home or I have them trainers'. We used a song by Adele called someone like you as it’s currently in the charts, Its a very popular song and it seems all ages like to listen to it. The lyrics and the song share the same meaning to our media product, as its all about love and we made a romantic comedy. By using that song we attracted different type of people due to it being in the charts currently. As our characters are different ethnicities, its open to more people and more people would be able to relate to them and think well that's happening to me. It’s also in a realistic situation as we live in a diverse society with many different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. They both look like two everyday normal couples that you would see on the streets; this makes it easier to understand the film and what it’s about.
The media institution that would distribute my film would be Working Title. They are a British production company, and are based in London. The company was founded in 1983 by Tim Bevan and Sarah Radclyffe. I chose this company as they usually make romantic comedies and that is the genre that I chose to do. One of the films they have made is four weddings and a funeral. They use many well known British actors in their romantic comedies like Hugh Grant, Keira Knightly, Colin Firth etc.The ages that we are targeting would be 18-30. We chose this age as from the findings of our questionnaire we found that was the typical age range of people who watch romantic comedies. As they have experienced these problems in a relationship and it makes sense to them. This film is targeted at women as men don’t usually watch romantic comedies. Our film is not for one particular ethnicity but for all ethnicities to enjoy and watch. As we have not concentrated on race but on the relationship at hand. We have not targeted any particular class, as we want all social classes to enjoy it whether they are middle class or working class. We didn’t want any stereotypes to be used in our film.
We want to attract our audience in many different ways; we will create teaser trailers that show the main essence of our film. We will make a website to promote the film, all the characters profile will be on there, the release date of the actual film etc. The traditional marketing I would use is the film premiere preferably in London as its central and most people know were it is, and an international news conference so more people around the world watch the film. One way we intended to promote the film is virally by having pop-ups when you go on some websites. This would make more people aware of the film. Another form of advertising would be by advertising our film on billboards and on buses as a wide range of society use public transport therefore attracting more people, having TV interviews with the main actors so they can tell the audience what the film is about. By having newspaper interviews, TV adverts especially in between popular programmes as the TV ratings would be high. Another form of advertising would be Radio interviews as many people listen to music on the radio or just generally have it on in the car, and last but not least by releasing the trailer in the cinemas and YouTube. I would also collaborate with big companies like coca-cola and MacDonald’s and make deals with them so they can help with the promotion of the film. They can give out toys of the main characters with every happy meal. After the release of the film in the cinemas and it has been out a while I would then release it on Blu-ray.

Doing this film has helped me develop my knowledge of certain technologies. I have learned how to use the mini DV cameras. One of the particular things I learnt was how to zoom and pause the camera. I learnt how to do voice over’s just using the camera which was very useful as I needed a voice over for my film. I have also learnt how to edit films using final cut pro. I made my own title sequence, played the film and had the titles playing over it. I made sure the font and the colour of the text matched the genre I was doing. I chose a song and out it on myself, I downloaded it from my phone onto the computer. I had never before this media course used a blog or ever made one. So it was interesting to see how it would go. I chose my own background colour, I liked this as I chose a background that would represent me it was Colourful and bright. I have also learnt about the 180 degree rule while making my film. It was very important as if I broke the rule I would confuse my viewers. I had to make sure the eye line is a match this basically meant making sure the eyes of both the characters from a shot reverse shot matched in terms of location on the screen. I also had to make sure not to brake the match on action. This meant when using seamless editing where a point of action e.g. handing something to someone, is shot from a different angle as it’s the point of action creating a match. We practised this before our production, we had to make sure we understood the rule and how not to brake it. All of these things have helped me create my production and my blog.

Red
Red Dragon was made in 2002 its a thriller about the serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lector. the film is written by Ted Tally and directed by Brett Ratner.
Camera angles
The first camera angle is an establishing shot of an orchestra playing and the audience watching it, everything seems normal. There is a close up of Hannibal's Lectors eye. It puts empathise on the evilness you can see in his eyes. They have also used a low angle of the Hannibal; you can clearly see he's in power. They have also used a shot-reverse-shot of the detective and the Hannibal; it shows the tension between the two characters. A close up of the detectives face reveals shock when he realises who the killer is.
Mise en scene
The first bit of the opening sequence is in a theatre, an orchestra. The rest of it is in Hannibal Lectors house. The lighting of the house is dim, but normal. At first you think nothing is happening as even the music is soothing and makes you relaxed. The opening credit of the film is in white and red writing, which you would usually associate with a thriller. The music at the beginning is cute and relaxed but as the action picks up the tempo of the music picks up too. There is also a close up of a scrap book which reminds you of se7en, you can see newspaper cuttings of the detective. It makes you realise that the Hannibal’s mind set is not normal.
Sound and Editing
The editing which was used is seamless editing, everything flows naturally. The music used is slow and relaxed but then gets faster as the action happens. The sounds you can hear are the orchestra playing. The dialogue used around the dinner table is mostly of men event thought there are many women around the table, this makes you think the men are in charge. You can hear the creaking of the floorboards as the Hannibal leaves the room. You can then hear the sound of the detective getting stabbed which you do not expect; this is when the music picks up tempo. Last but not least you can hear the gunshot as the detective shoots the Hannibal.

Synopsis for main idea
The genre of my film is Rom-com. The name of my film is ... This is a relevant name as my film is based on how people tell each other lies when they are asked to explain how they look like. A guy might say he is 6ft when really he’s 5ft 5. A girl might say she looks like a model tall and skinny, when in actual fact they are both average looking. The film is about two people that have been talking on Blackberry messenger for a while and decided to meet. The film is going to show her walking looking in a mirror putting on her lip-gloss. The guy would be checking his trainers out making sure his laces are looking good. They then both sit on this bench, and I’d put a voice over of the girl talking and then of the guy talking.

180 degree rule and preliminary exercise
You shouldn’t pass the line in the middle as you switch angles therefore it confuses the viewers.
Match action
Is a component of a seamless editing where a point of action (like handing something to someone) is a shot from different angles a its at the point of action creating a match.
Eye line match
This is making sure the eyes of both the characters from a shot reverse shot match in terms of the location on the screen.

Christian Metz- model of genre development
1) THE EXPERIMENTAL
2) THE CLASSIC
3) THE PARADOY
4) THE DECONSTRUCTION
The experimental- we mean the stage of early films which explored and experimented with the horror themes in its narrative films such as the cabinet of Dr Cagliari (1919) and Nosferati (1922). It helped formalize the convention horror films in its earlier stage.
The classic- we mean the stage of film which established the narrative convention of the horror genre in it’s most successful and defining period. Examples are Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931).
The parody- we mean films that have mimicked the horror genre in some comical way. Examples Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein (1948) carry on screaming (1968) and scary movie (1998).
The deconstruction- we mean films that have taken the generic elements of the horror genre and amalgamated them into varying sub genres. Se7en (1995) the sixth sense (1999) the Blair witch project (1998) scream (1998)
Combinations
- Se7en-psychological thriller/horror
- The sixth sense-supernatural thriller/horror
- Blair witch- documentary film/horror
- Scream- teen movie/horror
Halloween
Halloween is a 1978 American independent horror film directed and produced by John Carpenter. Debra Hill aslo helped co-write it.camera angles
The first angle was an extreme long shot of a house then it becomes an extreme close up, focusing on a pumpkin, this shows us that its Halloween. It starts of with hand held camera as it approaches the house, its seems real. Most of the beginning its filmed as a point of view of Micheal Myers, director gives the illusion that its an adult when in actual fact its a child. There is a medium close up of Micheal Myers face. A reverse tracking shot reveals a young Micheal by his parents.
sound and editing
You hear children singing Halloween songs. The non-diegetic sounds include dramatic music it makes you think somethings going to happen, it starts of steady and increases tempo as the action increases. he diegetic sounds include church bells, foot steps, someone picking up a knife. There are no obvious cuts, as they probably didnt want to take away people's attention from the action on screen.
Mise en scene
The film starts with an establishing shot of the house, you can tell its shot in someone’s point of view. Most of the opening scene is shot inside the house. Someone is walking through the house with a knife in their hands. The lighting inside the house is very dark; at one point what we now know was a young Michael Myers put on his mask making it even harder to see what’s happening. This in turn builds up more tension. The opening credits was written in orange with black background, with the title of the film people will instantly associate it with halloween.
