For the first question I asked what your favourite genre is out of these 3: Horror, thriller or romantic comedy

2 people said romantic comedy
This tells me that thriller is the favourite and Rom-com the least.

love actually

Love actually is a romantic comedy written and directed by Richard Curtis. The film is about different  people's view on love, we are shown this through the story of ten people.

Mise en scene
One location is the airport, you see people greeting each other, they are all happy and you can see love is all around. Another location is at a church were two people are getting married, again everyone is happy. The lighting is very bright; there is a lot of high key lighting. This reflects the mood of happiness all around. The opening of this film is a montage, its all about British people. The colours mainly used are red and white showing the Christmas spirit but also shows reflects happiness. From the opening sequence we gather the film is all about love and Christmas.
Camera angles
The first camera angle is an establishing shot of Heathrow airport. It’s full of people greeting each other, probably there to spend Christmas together. There are many close ups of peoples faces so you can see their reactions when they see there loved ones. They are all happy to see each other and to spend Christmas together. At the beginning of the sequence they use a hand held camera, they do this to show its reality, there’s real emotions. It’s done in a documentary style. They have also used shot-reverse-shot of the prime minister and the lady that works for him. It shows who’s in power from they way that she keeps on babbling and the fact that she’s nervous.
Editing and sound
One part of the sequence they used slow motion, it emphasised embracing and the love that is clearly visible. They also fade out title and just leave love on the screen, this is done to emphasise the whole film is about LOVE. When the wedding is happening they blurred out the characters face probably so the viewers can guess who it is, it also makes it more dramatic. The music used is happy and upbeat, it makes you smile. They also use incidental music makes you think about love. Hugh grant also does a voice over; he is taking us through what’s happening on screen.

se7en

Se7en is directed by David Fincher (1995). I will be analysing the opening sequence of this thriller.
fincher was one of the first to actually introduce the characters before the title sequence. We got to know the two detectives Sommerset and Mills.

We found out that detective sommerset played by Morgan Freeman was formal. He was very neat had everything organised showing signs of OCD, lives alone, very lonely. He's intelligent shown by the chessboard.

We found out that detective Mills played by Brad Pitt was younger. A bit scruffy looking, he looked like he didn't care that much about his appearance but he was wearing a suit. He's very sarcastic and a bit cocky. He's wearing leather which shows us how he's 'cool'.

Mise en scene
It looks like this particular scene is set in a basement as there is lack of lighting also its hidden away. The title at the beginning of the film is written in a format that looks like a child has written it’s not formal it’s also jumpy. This makes it creepy. You see a book in the opening sequence of a book. It looks like he is remembering all his victims. His fingers are cut up; from this we get an impression that he is not right in the head. The music through out is sinister making and it has that religious feel to it.

Sound and editing
The ticking clock at the beginning puts emphasis on the time running out. The thunder is kind of like the calm before the storm. Telling us something major is going to happen. The theme tune is sinister and goes well with the characters. It gets louder and quicker as they show us more victims. The grinding sound is very unpleasant and shows us his frame of mind. The editing is jumpy with lots of cuts, it’s fast and distorted. It’s erratic and shows us the characters mind set.

Camera angles
There is an extreme close up of mostly books, this is all his other victims, and it’s showing us that the character is dangerous. There is a high angle shot of him showing us his power and dominance, it’s his point of view of the murders its showing us his unstable. There is a tracking shot of the books telling us it’s kind of like his hobby to collect pictures of his victims.
